Should You Try a Betting System?

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

As gamblers we all want a quick way to up our odds and increase our winnings. No matter if it is the poker game, the black jack table, or the roulette wheel winning is the best part of any casino.

Winning is critical as thus many gamblers spend countless hours dissecting their play, reading books, watching videos, and learning from professionals all in hopes that they too can increase their offs of success. In fact, many people have devised systems promising bigger and more frequent wins then ever before. These betting systems as they are called, may either seem like a scam or a get rich quick scheme from where you are standing, but are they worth trying at all?

What is a Betting System

A betting system is where the player applies a pre-devised system to their betting. There are different types of betting systems for different games in the casino, but they all have the same basic purpose, win more money. For example, a betting system may have the player double their bet every time they loose and decrease their bet every time they win. There are theories behind betting systems, and in truth, some of them work some of the time. Many gamblers swear on their betting system.

The Upside of a Betting System

A betting system can be an excellent tool for a beginning gambler who is not sure how to bet, or has not devised their own system for betting. With a pre-designed betting system, the stress of when to call and when to raise is removed for the beginner and they can focus on learning the game and improving their technique. In fact, many systems work best as an overall guide to assist players in determining their next move as they are involved in the learning process, rather than relied on solely for each and every bet and situation.

The Downside of a Betting System

No betting system is perfect. A player is not going to win all the time using a system, and some systems can actually hurt the player in the long run. Especially a player who is more experienced and perfectly capable of determining his own bets. To invest your entire bankroll in to a system before you have fully tested it, perfected it, and possibly even modified it to function within your own mentality, is a sure means to substantial losses.

The Gagnante Marche Betting System Explained

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Over gambling’s long history several betting systems have been developed. These betting systems are always aimed at making the player the most money by trying to find a loophole in the luck of the game. Rather, betting systems come from the belief that you can beat the system if you just bet a certain way. Some times these betting systems do win players some money. Most of the time they don’t. Choosing to use a system is up to you, but it is helpful to know what these systems are and how they work.

What is the Gagnante Marche Betting Sytem?

The Gagnante Marche system is a method of betting that aims at hitting the streaks found across casino games. For example, occasionally a roulette wheel will hit a streak and the ball lands on black several times in a row. In the Gagnante Marche system you would be in on this streak because you would have been betting black all along.

How Does the Gagnante Marche Betting System Work?

In the Gagnante Marche betting system a player starts by placing a bet on the last color to win the round. For example, if a player walks up to the table and red was just called, then the player will place their bet on red. If red wins again, the player places another bet on red. If black wins, the player switches their bet to black. No matter what, the player always places their next bet on the last color to win. The theory is that eventually the color will hit a winning streak and the player will be in on it from the first round.

Does the Gagnante Marche Betting System Work?

The Gagnante Marche betting system has its strong points. There is a good chance that the wheel will land on a streak, and with the Gagnante Marche system the player is guaranteed to ride out that entire streak. The problem with the system is there is no way to tell if and when the streak will start. Meanwhile, the player is changing their bets haphazardly, waiting around for the streak. This can cost the player a lot of money in the long run, especially if a long time goes by before the wheel hits the same color more then once.

Roulette Strategies for Success

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

The first thing to know about Roulette is that there is no way to predict where the ball is going to land.  All of the numbers are random, so much in fact that the number which was a winner in the last spin has no bearing on the next number.  However, there are tips that can increase your odds of making your trip to the roulette table a profitable one.

Tips for Success

Probably the most important tip would be to play with small chips and not risk much since the chances of winning and losing are exactly the same.  As any successful gambler is known to quote, “Bet with your head, not over it.”  Most importantly, never place all of your money on one spin.

If you have the option, always choose the European wheel as the odds are higher than the odds of American roulette (2.7%  to 5.26%).  A few casinos do offer European wheels, but you are most likely to see this option when playing Roulette on the Internet.

If you have the opportunity, use the En Prison rule which allows you to save the bet in case it landed on 0 for one more spin. Basically, if you placed a bet and the ball landed on 0 the bet will be kept for one more spin.  In the event your bet wins on the second try you will get your money back.  Conversely, if the ball lands on something else on the second try you will lose your money.  Again, it would be pretty rare to have this option in a casino setting, but if this option is available in a cyber setting be sure to take advantage of it.

Another subtle tip that could save you big money is choosing an actual table over an electronic one.  Many casinos now offer electronic roulette where the dealer drops the ball into an actual roulette wheel, but all of the bets and payouts are done electronically on the players’ screens encircling the dealer.  True, this may seem like a more comfortable atmosphere than a crowded table, but you will lose your money at a much slower pace at that crowded table.  The reason for this is that it takes quite a bit of time in between each spin for the dealer to clear the losing bets and then pay out the winning bets.  The more crowded the table, the longer the periods between spins.  On the contrary, with the electronic game there are no losing bets to clear and no winning bets to pay out; it’s just one spin after another.

Bigger Edge for the House

Roulette is an easy game to play and understand and therefore people flock to it.  Unfortunately, games that are easy to understand usually have the highest house edge.  Keeping that in mind, if you’re looking to get rich quick then roulette probably isn’t your game.  However, if you enjoy a slow paced table game, the comradeship of fellow gamers and free drinks then roulette is definitely for you.

Game Guide: How to Play European Roulette

What is European Roulette?

European Roulette is a classic game found in most casinos. It is one of the oldest gambling games, tracing roots back to the beginning of organized gambling.

European Roulette is based on a small wheel comprised of different numbered pockets in corresponding colors. A ball is spun around the wheel until it lands in one of these pockets, determining the winning player for that spin.

European Roulette is similar to American Roulette, only the betting odds are higher. This version of Roulette offers a smaller number sequence; there are 37 pockets instead of the 38 found on American Roulette wheels.

How Do I Play European Roulette?

Each spin of European Roulette determines one game. Player’s will start each game by placing their bets on the table. Bets can be placed on an individual number, a sequence of numbers, or a color (red or black.)

Once all bets are placed the dealer will place the ball inside the Roulette wheel and spin. The wheel will come to a stop and the ball will land in a pocket. Depending on the player’s bet, if that pocket matches their number, sequence, or color they will win game.

There are several ways to bet in European Roulette. Players can bet on one number or as many numbers, sequences or colors they wish. The betting options for European Roulette include:

An individual number- A player can place a bet on one or several numbers on the wheel. Numbers range from 0-37.

A series of numbers- A player can place a bet on a sequence of numbers on the wheel such as; all the odd or all the even numbers.

A color sequence- A player can place a bet on a color, rather then a number, in European Roulette. The colors on the Roulette wheel are red and black.

The odds of winning are greatly increased by placing more then one bet on the table per spin. However, most players choose to place bets on numbers that are special to them such as their lucky number, spouse’s birthday, or an anniversary.

The Evolution of Roulette

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Roulette is an exciting game of chance. The drop of a ball into a spinning wheel. Roulette’s history has origins that date back to the 17th century.

Origins of roulette begin in France

Roulette is a French word meaning “small wheel.” The foundation of roulette dates back to 1655 in France. French scientist Blaise Pascal developed the first roulette type of wheel. He had attempted to invent a perpetual motion device but the end result was a byproduct for the eventual game of roulette. The game evolved into the 18th century. There were descriptions of a roulette wheel at Palasis Royal in Paris in 1796.

Elements of modern roulette would come into play in the following century. In 1842, Francois and Luis Blanc were responsible for establishing the first casinos in Monte Carlo. Prior to 1842, the standard roulette games featured the numbers 1-36. The Blancs added zero to the roulette wheels at their casinos to increase the house edge in the game.

Roulette comes to America

Roulette made its way to the United States in the 19th century. Instead of wheels with a single zero, the most popular roulette wheels in America during this era had double zeros. These type of wheels made their way up the Mississippi River before eventually moving out west. It was during this period that the wheels began to be placed on a table to help prevent cheating in the games. The American games had simpler betting aspects than the French roulette games. Roulette became popular in the west during the Gold Rush period among miners and gold speculators.

Players have taken advantage of biased wheels in game

While roulette is ideally a game of chance for the house, there have been some notable exceptions to this concept in the history of the game. In 1873, Joseph Jagger hired six clerks to record roulette outcomes at wheels in Monte Carlo. He was able to discover an engineering flaw in the wheel’s design that led to certain numbers coming up more often than others. Jagger was able to win over $400,000 based on the information that he obtained. Many professional gamblers were able to find rigged roulette wheels in the 1930′s. These gamblers would simply bet the opposite of the largest wagers to secure the most profit in the games.

In the early 1980′s, several casinos in England began to lose a large amount of wagers at their roulette wheels. Teams of gamblers from the United States were able to use a legal system to win their roulette wagers. The group of players used biased wheel-section wagering to win vast amounts in the England casinos. This led to a new wheel design to prevent biases in the games. George Melas developed a “low profile” wheel that caused the roulette ball to fall in a more gradual way into the pocket area. After a group of gamblers won nearly $4 million at an old roulette wheel in an Atlantic City casino in 1986, the new “low profile” wheels became the standard in casinos throughout the world by the end of 1987.

How to Play Roulette

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Roulette is one of the oldest casino games in the world.  Its origins can be traced back to France in the mid 1600s.  While there are many different variations, it remains one of the easiest games to play as well.  As far as roulette goes, all you really need to keep up with is your favorite colors or numbers.

Basics of Roulette

Upon approaching the roulette wheel, you will feast your eyes on a layout featuring the numbers, 0, 00 and 1 through 36.  These numbers will alternate between the colors of black and red.  The wheel positioned next to the layout has corresponding numbers above notches.  These notches represent where the roulette ball will rest following your spin.

Roulette Betting Options

You will also find that there are side bets on the layout of the roulette wheel.  These sections indicate black or red, odd or even, first, second or third column, first, second or third dozen, first half and second half.  The first half is 1 though 18 while the second half is 19 through 36.  When you put your money down at a live roulette table, you will get a corresponding amount of chips of a specific color.  These chips will be of the same denomination.  The purpose of the color is simply to differentiate your chips from all the other players at the table.  Obviously, when playing the game of roulette online, you don’t have to worry about all this as there is no need to keep track of your chips.  When stepping into the internet realm, you are the only one at the table and have the luxury to play at your own preferred speed.

Placing a Wager in Roulette

In roulette, you are free to put down as many chips as desire anywhere on the layout.  This of course, is subject to the table limits.  Chips placed directly on a number pay out if the ball stops on that number on the wheel.   You have the option of splitting your bet between two, four or six numbers.  If any of them hit, you win but receive a lower payout.  You can also place chips on any of the side bets as well as 0 or 00.  For the most part, as long as you can meet the table limits, you have the ability to allocate your chips how you prefer on the layout.  This is true even while the ball is spinning about the wheel.  Your chips can be spread out until the croupier makes the announcement of “no more bets”.

Winning at Roulette

Like most casino games, players are paid in roulette according to the odds.  For example, your winnings are determined by what the odds would be of your number hitting if there were no 0 or 00.  Therefore, a straight number bet would pay 35-1, and a bet on black would pay even money.  Many players prefer European roulette because the wheel only contains one 0, which works out in your favor.

Winning at any casino game is never guaranteed, but your chances get a lot better when you know all the basics.
