However, the rules of the game are much different. Omaha can be played either with a no-limit, pot-limit or limit structure, similar to Texas Hold’em. There are two distinct versions of the game:

Omaha High

Omaha Hi/Lo

The rules of Omaha are fairly simple. All casinos supply a dealer that is not actually playing. You are playing against all other individuals at the table. As a result, the dealer button indicates the last person to bet. The button moves to the left following each hand. Blind bets are posted to create a starting pot.

The player to the left of the button posts the small blind or one half of the minimum bet. The player to the left of the small blind is the big blind and they ante a full minimum bet. The remaining players at the table do not post any ante’s until the blind rotates to them. Therefore, each player will have a chance to be the dealer, small and big blinds.

The game begins with the dealer distributing four cards to each player face down. The small blind always receives the first card and the dealer has the last. The first betting round begins with the player to the left of the big blind and rotates to the left. Each player can call, raise or fold. The big blind also has the option of checking since they already have a bet in the pot.

Next, three cards (known as the flop) are dealt face up in the middle of the table. These are community cards that all players can use to make their hand. Another betting round commences beginning with the player to the left of the button.

The next round is known as the turn and an additional face up community card is placed in the center of the table. Once again, the first bettor is the left of the dealer button. The last round is the river in which the final of the five community cards is distributed.

To win, each player must use two of their four starting hand cards and three community cards to make the best five-card poker hand. In many instances, there is a tie in which the players split the pot. There is never a sixth card that acts as a tie-breaker.

The preceding rules are for Omaha High. This version derives from the requirement that the winner have the best or highest hand. Both variants of Omaha can be found in land-based and online casinos across the globe.

Making Sense of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act

Regulations

arty Gaming Plc

gambling websites

illegal Internet gambling

poker

SAFE Port Act

UIGEA

Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act
<guid

This law was paired with the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act (SAFE Port Act) and added at the last minute. The report was passed by Congress on September 30th, 2006 and later signed by President George Bush.

Provisions

This act essentially prohibits the transfer of funds from financial institutions to illegal Internet gambling websites excluding horse racing, fantasy sports and online lotteries. Penalties include the criminalization of the owners of those sites accepting funds from bettors. Those operators that are effect by this act include:

Those that knowingly accept wages

Those in the business of illegal gambling

Those sponsoring online gaming that violates federal and state laws

Those accepting gambling funds from credit cards, EFT’s and checks

Those in connection with a bettor

The ban became effective immediately upon approval. Ironically, the actual participation in online gambling or betting is not illegal, simply funding it is. This targets financial institutions, credit card companies and other online banking companies. Also, internet service providers were required to remove sites that displayed hyperlinks to gambling websites.

Industry responses

Many advocates against this bill argued that since poker is a game of skill, it should be excluded from this bill. Each state determined that this did not hold water. A study was conducted and decided that any game that contains 51% chance, is considered a game of luck and is therefore part of the bill. One solution is for online poker operators to present a statistical analysis based on hands played to prove this idea.

The most common response from publicly traded gambling websites is that they’ve stopped taking bets from United States customers. On the other hand, non-publicly traded websites continue to take bets from United States customers despite the law. Although they are out of the country, it is still an illegal act within the United States.

At the time, the largest internet poker company, Party Gaming Plc lost 60% of their stock worth within 24 hours of this bill being enforced. With millions of players, this showed the number of United States customers involved in some form of online gambling.

Although there are plenty of online gambling sites still available to United States customers, this act resulted in a huge loss for many publicly-traded companies. It’s likely that online gambling will always be available, but as laws become tougher, workarounds will need to be created.

Be Aware of the Poker Adrenaline Rush

Introduction

adrenaline

gamble

poker

poker concentration

poker hand

poker tells
<guid

You are looking around at the other players, thinking maybe they do not have such a high card hand, and your confidence starts to build. Before you know it, you are playing the entire hand on a heavy adrenaline rush. That rush is incredibly exciting; after all, it is why we gamble. However, that adrenaline rush can hurt your game, even cost you the hand, if you are not careful

Why You Should Control an Adrenaline Rush

Adrenaline Brings Out Your Poker Tells

The more excited we are about something, the harder it is to stay calm and focused. When a poker player looses their concentration, their natural poker tells start to show. For example, a player has a nervous habit of tapping their fingers on the table. So far in the game they have been able to keep their hands still. Suddenly that player is holding a flush and without realizing it they are tapping the table wildly. An experienced player sitting at that table would notice that tell right away and pull out of the hand rather then face the monster cards their opponent is holding. You never want to give away your hand when you stand a chance at winning.

Adrenaline Causes You to Stop Thinking Clearly

It is important to remain focused and logical throughout a poker game. One wrong move can cost you a big pot or pull you out of the game all together. When a player is holding a very high hand they can become too focused on their excitement and start to loose their concentration on the game. Just because you have a high hand does not mean that another player is not also holding a high hand. You need to stay focused and make smart moves no matter how excited you are.

Adrenaline Can Lead to Over Betting

When a player knows they are holding a great set of cards, they being to get confident. As the round goes on and it starts to look like they may be holding the best cards at the table, the player can get over excited about the possibility of a huge pot and start try to raise it as high as possible. This can price other players in to folding the game, or cost the player his entire bankroll if someone else was holding a better hand.

Why Emotions are Important in Poker

Introduction

betting reaction

calm poker player

controlling your emotions

fold

poker

poker player

poker skill
<guid

Eventually, flipping over the table, drawing their guns, and announcing their opponent was a cheater. This mental image gives poker an elusive and dangerous appeal. In reality, controlling your emotions and keeping a level head is much more important then a display of bravery in poker, no matter how good the movie cowboys made that table flipping look. There are several reasons why it is important to keep your emotions at bay at the poker table.

Why Emotions are Important to Good Poker Playing

A calm head leads to better moves. Poker is an art form, and like any art form poker takes a lot of skill. The calmer you are in your movements, the better you will be at calculating the right moves. Since poker involves several rounds of drawing and betting, it is important to keep a level head throughout the whole game so you do not blow your hand.

Excitability leads to poorly chosen bets. We have all seen it at the table. A poker player will win a few hands and let it get to their head. Next, the player is betting wildly. Calling when they should fold. Raising when they have next to nothing in their hand. Before you know it, that player has gone through their entire bankroll. This is why it is important to keep your emotions in check when you are betting. The calmer you are when you make your bets, the more likely they will be good ones, and good betting keeps you in the game longer.

Calm reactions will prevent your opponents from taking advantage of you. Many poker players believe that loud-mouthed or over-reacting players is a sign of a fish, or a new player to the game. Once an experienced player notices these traits in your poker playing, the will focus on you. If you are new to poker, it is best to keep a low profile. Experienced players will be able to read you much better then you can read them, why give them the upper hand?

Playing it cool is one of the most important skills to learn for any poker player. Anyone can learn to do it with practice. Just remember to pay attention to your emotions at every point in the game.

The Growing Popularity of 3 Card Poker

Introduction

3 card poker

ante wager

Blackjack

card counting

gambling industry insider

poker

Video Poker
<guid

There are literally thousands of unique slots titles online, and many casinos are now taking liberties with classics like blackjack, bingo and video poker. As millions of new online players log on every day, gambling industry insiders speculate that casinos are reviving previously overlooked game variations in hopes of finding a new hit. That’s just what happened with the game in question. Lately 3-Card Poker has been generating a lot of buzz, but the original version of the game is actually more than 15 years old.

So why is 3-Card Poker suddenly hot?

The game incorporates elements from three of the most popular gambling diversions – blackjack, poker and video poker. Combine the audiences of these three games, and you’ll have a steep majority of online gamblers (sans the significant slot crowd). Jaded fans of any of these three games looking for something similar but new will find just that with 3-Card Poker.

How does the game work?

Players may make one of two bets by placing chips in either the Ante or the Pair Plus area of the table. Players making an Ante wager will be privy to an experience that’s like a hybrid of blackjack and poker. Three cards are dealt to each player, and then three more are dealt face down to the dealer. Once you have considered your hand, you must decide if you want to double your original bet by placing an additional wager in the Play area beside the Ante, or if you want to fold your hand. Should you fold, your ante is forfeited, but should you play the dealer will reveal their cards and players with a hand that beats the dealer’s will be paid.

Players that choose to make the Pair Plus wager instead are basically playing a live version of video poker. The dealer’s hand is now irrelevant. To win, you must receive a 3-card hand that includes a pair or better. Anything less is an automatic loss.

What’s different about 3-Card Poker?

Unlike many of the games it borrows from, 3-Card Poker doesn’t allow for much strategy. Players cannot draw new cards, bluff or bully with their chips. In fact, the Pair Plus version of the game has no strategy at all, and the Ante half of the game’s strategy is limited exclusively to a player’s decision to play or fold. For the most part, knowledge of your fellow players’ hands is insignificant since you’re only competing against the paytable or the dealer, though some strategists theorize that card counting could give 3-card players an additional edge when choosing when to play or fold.

5 Tips for Playing Serious Poker

Games

betting rules

buy in limits

casino protocols

play poker

poker

poker table

poker techniques

protecting your cards

serious poker
<guid

Unlike the lax games played at home, casinos have protocols one must follow at any poker table. People who are new to playing at a casino shouldn’t feel the need to shy away from the tables, but a few techniques will help you look more like a pro.

1. Know the betting rules. Make sure you know the betting minimum and maximum, as well as any buy-in limits before you sit down at the poker table. Once you are playing, pay attention to the person’s bet in front of you. You will need to know the betting amount and if I raise was made.

2. Do not bet out of turn. Betting out of turn not only looks bad, it can hurt you in the long run. If you place your bet before your turn, you are giving an unfair advantage to the other players. They now know if you were going to raise or fold.

3. Protect your cards. Protecting your cards is the player’s responsibility and important for many reasons. Nothing looks more unprofessional then a player who is unaware that they are showing their cards to the table. If your cards were to get mixed up with another player’s cards then that hand would be considered invalid. If you had a good hand, you would loose the bet for that round.

4. Place your chips in the right spot. In casual home games it is common for a player to simply toss his or her chips in to the pot during the hand. At the poker table at the casino, the dealer is responsible for the chips. Do not simply toss your chips in to the pot. Calmly place your chips in front of you to signify how much you want to bet on that hand. The dealer will count them and place them in the pot.

5. Do not play every hand. Many rookies at the poker table feel they have to be in on the action and play every single hand. Take the time to learn the discipline of knowing when to play and when to fold. You will do better in the long run if you only play a round when you have a good starting hand.

Developing the right technique and following protocol not only makes you look better at the poker table, it will improve your game. Follow the pros and keep yourself in check.

Playing Poker: Know Your Card Deck

Introduction

black suit

card deck

card value

face card

flush

game of poker

poker

poker hands

red suit
<guid

Knowing what each card means is essential to playing any poker game. Most games of poker use standard values for each card. However, their may be some variants to each game. For example, the Ace may represent a high card in one type of poker and a low card in another type of poker.

There are fifty-two cards in each deck. Each of these cards has a different meaning or value in poker.

Know the Suits

In each deck of cards, there are four suits. The suits are used to make a number of poker hands. Having five cards all of the same suit gives you one of the highest hands possible, a flush.

Spades: The spades are a black suit with a spade marking. The spades have number cards from two to ten and four face cards- jack, queen, king, and ace.

Hearts: The hearts are a red suit with a heart marking. The hearts have number cards from two to ten and four face cards- jack, queen, king, and ace.

Clubs: The clubs are a black suit with a club (or clover shaped) marking. The clubs have number cards from two to ten and four face cards- jack, queen, king, and ace.

Diamonds: The diamonds are a red suit with a diamond marking. The diamonds have number cards from two to ten and four face cards- jack, queen, king, and ace.

Know the Value of Each Card

Each type of card has a unique value in poker. Often, this value is universal across the suits. For example, if an Ace of diamonds were the highest card you could hold, then an Ace of clubs would also be the highest card you could hold.

The Number Cards: Each suit has number cards from two to ten. These number cards are worth face value and often go in pairs, three of a kind, and flushes.

The Face Cards: The face cards have a higher value then the number cards, and can in order of increasing rank. The Jack is the lowest face card, followed by the Queen, the King, and then the Ace. However, in some games the Ace can represent both a high and low card.

You have to know your cards before you can play any game of poker, but learning the types of cards and their value is not hard and you will be ready to play in no time!

How to Play Red Dog

Games

Ante bet

odds of winning

play Red Dog

poker

Red Dog

three card game
<guid

Red Dog is a popular game because it is based largely on luck and little skill is involved. Poker players who have never played the game before can easily pick it up.

Red Dog is played on a table with up to sixteen players and one dealer. Red Dog is based on a three card game, compared to the five card game found at most poker tables. The dealer deals two cards face up to the table. It is the player’s job to then bet if the third card will fall between the values of the two cards already placed on the table.

Red Dog moves very quickly, and if a player is lucky it is an easy game to accumulate winnings in.

How Do I Play Red Dog?

Before the game is started all players who wish to be in that round of Red Dog must place an Ante bet. This Ante bet qualifies the player for the round. There is often a minimum, and occasionally a maximum, set by the casino.

Once every player has placed an Ante bet the dealer will deal two cards face up. These two cards will display a range that the third card must fall within.

The player then has the option to bet or fold based on the two cards on the table. If the players chooses to fold the Ante bet is lost. If a player wishes to continue they must raise his or her Ante bet.

Once all Ante bets are raised the dealer will place the third card face down on the table. If the third card falls within the range of the first two cards the player wins. If the third card is higher or lower then the first two cards dealt, the house wins.

Every card in the deck has a value similar to standard five card poker hands. Face cards are worth their face value. From there the cards are worth an ascending value with Jacks being eleven, Queens being 12, Kings being 13, and Aces being 14.

How Does Betting Work in Red Dog?

Betting in Red Dog is similar to most poker games. Every player is required to place an Ante bet within the casino’s pre-set minimum and maximum amounts.

Players who choose to stay in the game after the first two cards are dealt must raise their Ante bet once to stay in the hand. Often, players are allowed to raise their Ante bet as high as they wish, but most casinos still require a minimum amount.

In Red Dog the odds of winning are highly based on the first two cards dealt by the dealer. If the two cards are similar in face value, the odds are low for the players and high for the house. If the two cards have a difference of seven or more the odds are greatly in favor of the players.

Applying Strategy in Online Casinos

Introduction

Blackjack

chance games

online casino games

pai gow

payout percentage

poker

poker strategy

skillful casino games

strategy games
<guid

Many have only seen the game on TV in the various major tournaments that are broadcast. Poker’s growth has been unmistakable over the last decade as beginners continue to learn and play in casinos and online.

The basics of Poker

Poker is derived from a family of card games. The games varies in how hands are formed, how cards are dealt, limits on bets, as well as how many rounds of wagering are allowed. In the initial round, the betting starts with some form of a forced wager. These wagers play a big role in the outcome of poker games. Because of this, poker is a game that involves some unique strategy when compared to some other casino games that are based strictly on chance. Each successive player must match the initial wager or fold from the remainder of the hand. They also have the option of raising the hand. Savvy poker players can bluff their opponents with certain moves or non-moves by remaining unemotional regardless of their hand. The betting round concludes when each player has matched the last wager or folded. If all but one player folds during the course of any given round, the remaining player wins without showing his hand. If more than a single player remains in contention after the last round of betting, all hands are then shown and the winning hand collects the pot.

Winning poker hands

While there are some variations depending on the exact poker game that is being played, there is a general order of poker hands that will lead to a victory. Here is a basic list of the top ten winning poker hands:

1. Five of a kind-This hand features four cards of the same kind plus a wild card. If multiple players have five of a kind, the player with the higher value cards will win.

2. Straight flush-A straight flush is a hand of any five cards in sequence of the same suite. A royal flush occurs when an ace is the highest card in the straight.

3. Four of a kind-The same as a five of a kind with one fewer card.

4. A full house-This hand features three cards of one kind combined with two cards of a different kind.

5. A flush-In this hand, the player holds only cards of the same suite.

6. A straight-This hand features five cards in sequence but of different suites.

7. Three of a kind-A lower version of five of a kind and four of a kind.

8. Two pairs-This hand features two cards of one rank combined with two cards from another rank.

9. A pair-A hand with two cards of one rank.

10. A high card-In this hand, no two cards have the same rank.

With a basic understanding of whether to bet or fold and the main winning hands in the sport, poker newcomers aren’t too far away from being able to feel like one of the elite professional players that they see each year playing for millions of dollars at the World Series of Poker.
