Casinos Partner with HBO to Make Sex and the City Slot Machines

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Fans of the hit HBO TV show, Sex and the City, got a surprise recently when the show made its way on to the casino floor in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada. International Game Technology, a company that makes casino equipment like slot machines, created the Sex and the City game with permission from HBO, and several casinos across Nevada recently unveiled the new game on the floor.

Sex and the City- The Slot Machine

The Sex and the City game is one of many slot machines based after popular movies and TV shows. The trend is not a new one, and most casinos offer several games based on characters from hit shows. Sex and the City’s predecessor include Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Green Acres, and the Wizard of Oz to name a few. These games are extremely popular for the recognizable themes and fun-play.

The Sex and the City game feature all the main characters of the show; Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda, Carrie and Mr. Big. It is a modern style slot machine with several betting lines and an interactive bonus. The slot machine also has video clips from the show, voice-overs, and a soundtrack.

International Game Technology’s Multiplay

One of the most drawing features of the multi-progressive slot machine is the incorporation of International Game Technology’s Multiplay feature.

Multiplay is a technology offered exclusively by the slot-machine maker. In Multiplay, the player can play up to four games at once on the same screen. This means the player is betting more then usual, but there are also more chances to win. With four games running 30 pay lines a piece, it’s a hard thing to pass up.

Sex and the City Bonuses

On top of the Multiplay, the Sex and the City slot machine has attractive bonuses.

There are a total of five bonus rounds in the game that offer nine unique patterns. This is a far cry from the standard singular bonus round featured on most slot machines, and it is paying off. Most players are playing all four Multiplay games on every round in hopes of hitting one of the many bonuses.

The bonus games consist of Simply Fabulous, Hello Lover!, Change of Dress, and Perfect Present. While the games vary, they are all interactive. The bonuses either offer free spins or give the player a chance to pick prizes on the screen.

Overall, the Sex and the City slot machine is such a big hit for the casinos that one has to wonder if more HBO style games are in the works.

Five Ways to Protect Yourself When Gambling Online

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Online casinos have opened doors most gamblers never thought possible. Gone are the days of having to reserve our gaming for once a twice a year when we could make the trip to Las Vegas. Now anyone of legal age with a debit card can gamble at many extremely popular and high rated, online casinos. However, certain inherited risks come with gambling online, the security of your personal information and home computer being the biggest.

Thankfully, a reputable online casino will work effortlessly to protect your personal information. Respectable online casinos have internet security staff and offer a level of privacy you would get from a bank, or online shopping site. However, it is necessary for any player to protect themselves as well. Below are some of the five best ways you can protect yourself, your computer, and your financial information when gambling online.

1. Only Play at a Reputable Online Casino: The internet is flooded with websites offering online gaming, and some of these are far more respectable then others. To reduce your risk, play at a website that you recognize.

2. Research Any Online Casino Before Joining: With a few dollars, any web owner can make a web site look like the most trustworthy site on the internet. This is especially true of websites that deal in monetary goods. To be safe you should research any online casino before you ever give them any personal information. A good source of research is online reviews. Other gamblers write reviews for people like you. Do a quick Google search with the online casino’s name and “review.” You are likely to come up with hundreds.

3. Protect Your Computer by Adding a Firewall: Despite an online casino’s best efforts, a hacker may still get through. To reduce your risk of getting spyware, or worse- becoming a victim of identity theft, you should do everything you can to protect your personal computer on your end. First, increase the security settings on your computer. If they are set to a lower setting bumping this up will greatly reduce your risk. You should also install a Firewall. Your computer manufacturer may have already provided this software for free. Once the firewall is installed, make sure you have it running before you sign on to the online casino.

4. Be Cautious of what you Download: Most online casinos have a software platform that they require a player to download before they can gamble at the site. Even if you have researched the site thoroughly, you should still run any program through a virus checker before you install it on your computer. If you notice the site asking you to download additional programs make sure it is necessary, and safe, before you download. You can ask around online forums frequented by online gamblers, or send an e-mail to the casino directly.

5. Consider Using an Alternate Credit Card: If you are able, consider using a credit source other then your primary debit or credit card. This way if the card is stolen, the thief will not have access to your checking account; and chances are you will be able to cut them off before they completely drain your financial resources. You may also consider using Paypal’s create-a-credit-card feature. If you have Paypal, the company will make you a temporary credit card number that can be used at any online site. The number works just like a Visa or Mastercard, is linked to your bank accounts, but is incredibly difficult to steal. Since the card number is only good for a short time, this method will only work if you plan on only visiting an online casino for awhile.

All said; online casinos are a safe and enjoyable past time. As long as you are doing what you can to protect your information and your computer you should not have any problems gambling online.

Nevada Holding Off on Internet Gambling Regulation

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

The state of Nevada is the home of beautiful desert terrain, brothels and most notably, Las Vegas, now referred to by many as Sin City.  It is no secret that Nevada has become synonymous with gambling over the years.  With so many casinos and gambling establishments in the area, the prevalence of online gambling has sparked major competition on a state wide level.  And while you could say there is really no point in playing from your computer when you could easily venture to vibrant venues offering free alcohol and casino games galore, online gambling has managed to make its way into the homes of thousands of Nevada residents.  The more than one hundred sportsbooks and casinos may not like it but up to this point, they, like much of the rest of the world, have been powerless to stop it.  However, there are a few reasons why online gambling has still yet to explode as fast as eager players in Nevada would like.

Problems with Regulation

You might be surprised at the support internet gambling has garnered in recent times.  Several local governments are taking a closer look at existing laws while even some officials on the federal level are openly exploring ways to effectively regulate the industry.  In the state of Nevada, regulation and full legalization all rests on the shoulders of the Gaming Control Board and Gaming Commission, the two entities that would be responsible for adopting and enforcing the new provisions.  Unfortunately, there are currently three major roadblocks within the existing state legislation that might cause problems.

1.)  The first hurdle is the United States Department of Justice, an agency that would need to give Nevada regulators the green light and also one that is adamantly against online gambling.

2.) Second and very important, regulators would have to ensure virtual gambling technology that provides a reasonable level of protection to prevent minors from participating or stop online gambling in locations where the act is illegal.

3. Finally, regulators would have to make sure that internet gambling is consistent with the state’s public policy of maintaining the stability and success of Nevada gaming.  This is perhaps the biggest concern of all.

In 2001, a Nevada law was passed that authorized the state to at least explore the possibility of online gambling regulation. Now however, it looks as if legislators are holding back and observing the action of their neighbors.

America’s Online Gambling Capital?

California, the most popular state in the country and home to one of the world’s biggest regional economies, is currently lobbying strong for the regulation of online gambling.   The state is trying to leverage a sizable loophole in the UIGEA that will allow internet wagering to be legislated and fully regulated.  Due to its aggressiveness, many experts are predicting that California will eventually hold the title of America’s online gambling capital while Nevada sits back and watches.  There is a lot of tax revenue to be generated so if California succeeds, others will likely follow suit.

Ensuring Privacy in Online Gaming

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Everyone is now familiar with the popular Sin City slogan of “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”  For many, Las Vegas is that great escape from the real world.  Naturally, some visitors would prefer that all of their gambling and recreational activities remain sacred.  In a sense, the same holds true for the realm of online gaming as having privacy is a must.  This article will give you several tips to keep in mind when examining the privacy policy of an online casino site.

Privacy for Email

It is critical to make sure the online casino’s privacy policy covers email communications.  The company should clearly state that it will not distribute spam to your email address or solicit it to third-party sources.  Your email address should only be used for matters pertaining to your casino account or newsletters and promotional offers you agreed to receive.  Under no circumstance should it ever be given to an outside company or auctioned off for sale.  To put it simple, your email address should only be a communications medium between you and the casino operator.

Efficient Sign-in Systems

Online casinos require that you submit a great deal of personal information upon signing up for an account.  This generally includes your name, home address, email address and phone number.  You will have to fork over even more details if you want to fund your account with real money.  While this can be a hassle and scary for some, it is a requirement that must be met in order to place a wager. Even though there is no getting round this aspect, it is still advisable to find a casino that ensures privacy with a system that requires you to enter these details only once, opposed to every time you want to make a wager.

Be Aware of Cookies

There are many sites that rely on cookies to keep track of the players who register at the casino.  This helps them automatically recognize you the next time you pay a visit.  However, the basic functioning of cookies could be a privacy concern.  You could always disable cookies through your browser but there may be a few consequences.  While most sites allow you to access the normal casino features, others will be limited in terms of functionality because their gaming software requires the use of cookies.

These are just a few of many important factors that must be considered when evaluating the privacy policy of an online casino.  Although each operator has different policies, all should be designed to keep your information safe.  Because you will be required to comply with an agreement before signing up, this would be the perfect opportunity to speak with someone at the company to make sure the privacy policy lives up to your standards.  If the person cannot answer your questions to satisfactory or you find something in the policy that sound right, simply move onto to another casino site.  Rest assured, there are plenty of suitors that can provide you with the level of privacy and security you need to feel comfortable.
