How to Verify an Online Casino

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

When choosing a new online casino, you want to make sure that your computer, your personal information, and your money is in safe hands. After all, the potential risks for online casinos can be quiet large. On the surface, all online casinos look pretty similar, and pretty safe. However, if you know how to do your investigating you can pick out the safest online casino for you and your money.

What to Look for in an Online Casino

Beyond the games, the style, and the promotions, you need to consider the security of the website supporting the online casino.

A License

Any online casino you are considering should have an appropriate gaming license in the area where they are physically located. This area can be anywhere in the world, but the casino should be able to provide their current license information.

Trusted Software

All online casinos use software to operate their games. Do some research on any casino you are considering and see where their software comes from. Safer online casinos will use software from reputable brands such as Logic, Cryptologic, and MicroGaming. Also, online casinos are required to have a license in order to run software from known brands.

Certified Payouts

A reputable online casino will post the amount they have paid to their winners somewhere on their website. These reports should go months, if not years, in to the past. Research the report thoroughly. To ensure the report is accurate, check to see if it was compiled by the casino or a third-party accounting company. Reports made by third-parties stand a much higher chance of being an accurate account of the online casino’s payouts.

While most online casinos are safe, and gambling online should be an enjoyable experience, it is in your best interest to do your homework before you give your personal information to any website.

Blackjack Terms for Beginners

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Blackjack is a game onto itself. Blackjack stands alone at the casino and is one of the most popular tables in the house. Blackjack has a long history and avid players, as such the game has developed its own language. If you have never played blackjack before, but would like to try, learning this language is one of the key steps to playing the game well. After all, you need to know what the dealer and the other players are talking about before you can make the best moves for your hand. Fortunately, blackjack lingo is straightforward and simple, more so then poker, and anyone can pick it up.

Common Blackjack Terms

Table: The table refers to the blackjack table. This is where the dealer will stand, the players will sit, and all cards and bets will be handled.

Dealer: The dealer is responsible for shuffling the cards, handing out the plays, and taking bets. The dealer will also call each round of blackjack and hand out the winnings. In blackjack you play against both the dealer and the other players at the table.

Player Roster: In order for blackjack to be played you must have at least one dealer and at least one player. The amount of players sitting at the table is refereed to as the player roster. Blackjack players sometimes use this term when talking about their opponents.

Basemen: Basement is another way of saying player in blackjack. Each player is a baseman.

First Baseman: The first baseman refers to the player sitting directly to the left of the dealer. This is the first player to act after the cards have been drawn.

Third Baseman: The third baseman is the last player to act on a hand because he or she is seated last at the table, or on the right side of the dealer.

Anchorman: Anchorman is another term for third baseman, or the last player seated at the table.

Twenty-One: Blackjack is sometimes referred to as twenty-one because you need a total of twenty-one cards (or closer then the dealer and other players) to win. Most all casinos call blackjack by its proper name, but the term twenty-one is common around private home games.

Natural Blackjack: A natural blackjack is a rare occurrence in the card game. A natural blackjack occurs when a player is dealt 21 in the first two cards. If a player is dealt 21 in their first to cards, it is an automatic win and the dealer can not beat out or tie with them.

An Online Glossary of Craps Bets

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

The action and the objective of online craps are both pretty straightforward. A shooter tosses a pair of dice down the length of a table – that’s the action. The players surrounding the table predict the result of each roll or alternately of each round by betting on them – that’s the objective. As they say, the devil is in the details, and when it comes to mastering craps those details are the bets.

For such a simple game, craps offers a surprisingly large selection of bets. These bets fall into three basic categories: line bets, single-roll bets and multi-roll bets. Line bets are those bets that revolve around the come out roll and point. Single-roll bets, as their name implies, are bets made on the outcome of a single roll of the dice. Multi-roll bets are more complex bets made on certain “either/or” possibilities.

Single-roll bets are as straightforward as the rest of the game – basically at any time during a round a player other than the shooter may wager on the end value of the next roll. Though they are the most common bets in the game, line bets are the ones that tend to trip new players up. All shooters are limited to line bets, so if you’re planning to control the dice at any time in your craps career these bets are especially worth learning. Here’s a basic rundown of each.

Pass Line Bet

A pass line bettor wins instantly if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 in the come out roll. Alternately, they lose instantly if the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12. A roll that results in any other value (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) sets the point. To win now, a pass line bettor must hope that the shooter will roll the point again before rolling a 7.

Don’t Pass Line Bet

A don’t pass line bet is the exact opposite of the pass line bet. This bet wins instantly if the shooter rolls a 2 or 3 in the come out roll, pushes on a 12, and loses instantly if 7 or 11 is rolled. If a point is set, then a don’t pass bet pays if the shooter rolls a 7 before rolling the point again.

Come Bet

The come bet is identical to the pass line bet except it starts on the second roll instead of the come out roll.

Don’t Come Bet

The don’t come bet is the opposite of the come bet in the same way that the don’t pass bet is the opposite of the pass bet. It follows all the same rules as the don’t pass bet above, but those rules are not in place until the second roll of a round.

The Growing Popularity of 3 Card Poker

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

These days new casino games seem to pop up every week. There are literally thousands of unique slots titles online, and many casinos are now taking liberties with classics like blackjack, bingo and video poker. As millions of new online players log on every day, gambling industry insiders speculate that casinos are reviving previously overlooked game variations in hopes of finding a new hit. That’s just what happened with the game in question. Lately 3-Card Poker has been generating a lot of buzz, but the original version of the game is actually more than 15 years old.

So why is 3-Card Poker suddenly hot?

The game incorporates elements from three of the most popular gambling diversions – blackjack, poker and video poker. Combine the audiences of these three games, and you’ll have a steep majority of online gamblers (sans the significant slot crowd). Jaded fans of any of these three games looking for something similar but new will find just that with 3-Card Poker.

How does the game work?

Players may make one of two bets by placing chips in either the Ante or the Pair Plus area of the table. Players making an Ante wager will be privy to an experience that’s like a hybrid of blackjack and poker. Three cards are dealt to each player, and then three more are dealt face down to the dealer. Once you have considered your hand, you must decide if you want to double your original bet by placing an additional wager in the Play area beside the Ante, or if you want to fold your hand. Should you fold, your ante is forfeited, but should you play the dealer will reveal their cards and players with a hand that beats the dealer’s will be paid.

Players that choose to make the Pair Plus wager instead are basically playing a live version of video poker. The dealer’s hand is now irrelevant. To win, you must receive a 3-card hand that includes a pair or better. Anything less is an automatic loss.

What’s different about 3-Card Poker?

Unlike many of the games it borrows from, 3-Card Poker doesn’t allow for much strategy. Players cannot draw new cards, bluff or bully with their chips. In fact, the Pair Plus version of the game has no strategy at all, and the Ante half of the game’s strategy is limited exclusively to a player’s decision to play or fold. For the most part, knowledge of your fellow players’ hands is insignificant since you’re only competing against the paytable or the dealer, though some strategists theorize that card counting could give 3-card players an additional edge when choosing when to play or fold.

These incentives are often given away for free, but you can win some through games like Bingo and Keno. Through out the year, Casinos will offer bigger incentive prizes. These prizes can include cars, free stays at their resorts, even world class vacations.

How to Find Out About Incentives

Casinos do not try to keep their incentives a secret. After all, the purpose of those extra prizes is to draw in visitors. There are a couple of different ways to get the scoop on casino incentives. First, join the casino’s players club. The players club promotional teams will send information on the casino happenings, including incentive prizes, several times a year through emails and regular mail. You can also check out the casino’s website. If the promotion is big enough, the casino will often display it on their site.

How to Win Those Incentives

The rules for each incentive prize is different. Larger incentives are often won through slot and poker tournaments. The only way to win those is to sign up and play. Smaller prizes offered throughout the year are given out to players club members. Be sure to sign up with the players club at every casino you visit. There is no end to what you can get out of the membership, and best of all it is free.

Incentive prizes offer you another chance to win big at a casino. There is no cost to try and win an incentive prize, so be sure to look for them at every casino you visit. However, be sure to read the fine print as every prize will have different rules for getting it.

Why You Should Keep Track of Your Poker Results

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Most poker players would tell you that they “break even” if you were to ask them how they fair in poker games overall. The reason for this is that most players do not know how well, or how poorly, they are doing. They do not keep a record showing the results of their game. However, ask a poker professional how they fair in their games and they can tell you exactly because they understand the importance of keeping track. If you do not have a record of your past games, you should start now.

Why You Should Keep Track of Your Poker Playing

Manage Your Bankroll

The most practical reason to keep track of your gambling is to have a firm grasp on your bankroll. If you are an avid poker player, you likely have money set aside for you to play your game and you should manage this money as firmly as you do your checking account. By keeping a record of your total wins and losses, you will know exactly how well you fair in poker games overall. Plus, having a record of your bankroll will make things a lot easier during tax time if you win a big jackpot.

Analyze Your Poker Game

You often look for ways to improve your game, but how can you improve your skills efficiently if you do not know what needs improving? Take notes of every game as soon as you are done playing. Note any mistakes you made, hands you played extremely well, or thoughts on the other players. You can refer to these notes later when you are looking for a weak spot in your poker strategies. On the flip side, having a list of good moves you have made in the game works as a great motivational tool.

Gain Some Perspective

Poker players can have a very selective memory when it comes to their past poker games or tournaments. A mid range, or even poor game, can get over-inflated in our memories. While telling the tall tell of your poker wins around the break room is not going to hurt anyone, it does you no good to have a false sense of how well you are really playing. By keeping track of your games, you can keep avoid that selective memory all together and know exactly where you stand.

How to Handle a Lucky Streak

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Luck streaks do come along. Maybe you are at the slot machine and suddenly you are hitting bonus after bonus. Maybe you are at the Blackjack table and the cards are in your favor. However it happens, you will eventually hit a lucky streak. The problem players are not always sure how to play off their lucky streak when they get one. To make the most out of a streak, you have to take advantage of it.

How to Play Out a Lucky Streak

Keep Your Wits

The first thing you should know about a lucky streak is that is it can come on at any time and end quickly. Once you hit a winning streak, do not get overly excited. It is normal for an adrenaline rush to kick in on a series of wins, but you cannot let that rush cloud your judgment. Continue to play the game how you would have played regardless of any streak. Do not throw you whole bankroll in to the next hand because you think you are on a roll, that roll could be over.

Keep Playing

Some players believe they should quit while they are ahead, and that is a good theory to follow. However, if you are on a winning role it is not a good idea to get up from the table or slot machine. Play the streak out and see where it goes. A streak can last five rounds, or it could last fifty. If you have one three or more rounds in a row, play another round or two to see if you keep winning. The risk of one loss is worth the possibility of hitting a long running streak.

Play Smartly

Once you think you’ve hit a lucky streak, it is imperative to play smart. Do not just assume that because you were lucky once means you will be lucky again. While luck plays a big factor in gambling, so does strategy. For example, if you are at the poker table, keep gauging your hands as strategically as you can. Do not play out a low hand because you think you are on streak. There is no guarantee that the second draw is going to give you the cards you need just because you have been playing lucky. If you are at the slots, do not suddenly start betting more then you can afford because the slot machine is “loose,” it may have only been a temporary situation and you might be out a lot of money before you realize that fact.

How to Find the Best Casino Game for You

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Different types of casino games require different rules, strategies, and techniques to play. Certain games require more logic and careful consideration, while other games rely on heavy gambling and quick thinking. We all have strengths when it comes to gambling and playing casino games. The trick is to find a game that lets you use your strengths to your advantage.

What Are Your Gambling Strengths?

The Logical Thinker

A logical thinker is someone who takes his or her time in life. They are careful to fold, careful to raise their bets. They move slower, so quick thinking games are not for them. However, they are always thinking so poker games that require a lot of strategy are more up their alley. For example, if you enjoy puzzles and like to take your time on projects, then you would do well with a game like Omaha, which requires a lot of thought.

The Strategist

If you loved the game Risk as a kid, and prefer to plan your moves in detail before making them, then you are strategist. A strategist likes to look at the whole picture and figure out how to make each individual move before acting. Casino games that are mostly up to chance, like slot machines, do not work very well for a strategist. If you like planning, then you should stick to a longer poker game like Texas Hold ‘Em.

The Gambler

The gambler is someone who likes to take risks. They are less concerned about pot odds and statistics, and more focused on what is fun and risky. The gambler likes to move quickly and enjoys the thrill of placing big bets. More strategic games of poker are not an ideal situation for a gambler, other fast-paced games like Craps or the slot machines are better bets. These games move quickly and allow the gambler to place large bets.

The Timid Player

Timid players can have just as much fan at a casino as anyone else, provided they can find a game that allows them to play on their strengths. Timid players tend to bet more carefully and enjoy easy to understand games. Basic five card draw poker is an ideal game for a timid player, especially at a lower limit table. Five card draw will allow a timid player to place smaller bets on an easy to follow game that allows them to feel comfortable and play up their strengths.

The Gagnante Marche Betting System Explained

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Over gambling’s long history several betting systems have been developed. These betting systems are always aimed at making the player the most money by trying to find a loophole in the luck of the game. Rather, betting systems come from the belief that you can beat the system if you just bet a certain way. Some times these betting systems do win players some money. Most of the time they don’t. Choosing to use a system is up to you, but it is helpful to know what these systems are and how they work.

What is the Gagnante Marche Betting Sytem?

The Gagnante Marche system is a method of betting that aims at hitting the streaks found across casino games. For example, occasionally a roulette wheel will hit a streak and the ball lands on black several times in a row. In the Gagnante Marche system you would be in on this streak because you would have been betting black all along.

How Does the Gagnante Marche Betting System Work?

In the Gagnante Marche betting system a player starts by placing a bet on the last color to win the round. For example, if a player walks up to the table and red was just called, then the player will place their bet on red. If red wins again, the player places another bet on red. If black wins, the player switches their bet to black. No matter what, the player always places their next bet on the last color to win. The theory is that eventually the color will hit a winning streak and the player will be in on it from the first round.

Does the Gagnante Marche Betting System Work?

The Gagnante Marche betting system has its strong points. There is a good chance that the wheel will land on a streak, and with the Gagnante Marche system the player is guaranteed to ride out that entire streak. The problem with the system is there is no way to tell if and when the streak will start. Meanwhile, the player is changing their bets haphazardly, waiting around for the streak. This can cost the player a lot of money in the long run, especially if a long time goes by before the wheel hits the same color more then once.
